A retrieval system inherits the quality of its source material. Establish ownership, freshness and access rules before indexing documents.
Retrieve with intent
Combine semantic retrieval with exact matching when the question depends on identifiers or precise terminology. Keep source references attached to retrieved passages.
Evaluate the whole path
Test retrieval separately from answer generation. A fluent response can still be based on the wrong source. Include unanswerable questions and permission-sensitive cases in review.
